Michael Dennis The Key West Glass Blower Michael Dennis
Michael Dennis The Key West Glass Blower Michael Dennis is from Flint, MI. His interest in glass was ignited at a Jr. High School career day demonstration. He started blowing glass at age 16, learning by watching others. After high school he attended college, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He came to Florida in 1972 for a 2 week vacation and never left. Living in the Florida Keys he soon found he could augment his construction job income by selling his art work. When his construction job ended he moved to glass full time. First selling wholesale, and at flea markets. He then rented a series of small shops in Key West. The first was in 1975. His work reflected his location with his palm trees, dolphins, sail boats, sharks, and other tropical themes. He moved from Key West in 2000 and now lives in Alva FL.

His current work consists of mainly Fan pulls, Drawer and cabinet knobs, Lamp finials and sea sculptures. Michael has been working with glass for more than 42 years. Seventeen of those years he had a glass shop on Duval Street Key West Florida. He wholesales work to many galleries. Michael uses torches to melt the glass that he works with, a technique called flameworking. Works with borosilicate as well as dicroic glass. Early in his career he only worked with clear glass and made glass sculptures, now he uses colored glass that makes functional art. Michael Dennis The The Key West Glass Blower
